NZ Sign Language Act of 2006 Anniversary

6th of April 2027 marks 21 years since New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) became an official language of Aotearoa New Zealand, alongside te reo Māori and English.

The recognition of NZSL was a significant milestone in advancing inclusion of our Deaf community. It also highlighted the importance of creating accessible environments and communication platforms that enable Deaf and hard-of-hearing people to participate fully in society.

This anniversary provides an opportunity to celebrate the significance of NZSL, and encourage continued progress for inclusivity and accessibility across Aotearoa.
