
Tiaho Trust is a disabled-led organisation working to create communities across Te Tai Tokerau Northland where disabled people are included, valued and able to participate fully.
We provide independent advocacy, disability information, education and support. We also work alongside disability service providers, community organisations, businesses, and local and central government agencies to improve accessibility and inclusion throughout Northland.
Our collaborative approach ensures disabled people are leaders and active participants in decisions, projects and services that affect their lives.
Our services
Independent advocacy
Tiaho Trust offers free, independent advocacy for disabled people and their whānau. We may be able to assist if you:
- Feel you are being treated unfairly because of your disability
- Are having difficulty accessing the support or services you need
- Need help understanding your rights or available options
- Would like support communicating with an organisation or service provider
Disability information and connections
We provide information about disability services, support groups, events and community resources available throughout Te Tai Tokerau Northland.
Our online Supporters Directory helps disabled people, whānau and carers find specialist disability organisations and learn more about the services they provide.
Representation and community development
Tiaho Trust represents the perspectives and interests of disabled people on a range of local government, community and agency committees and advisory panels.
We act as a connection between these organisations and Northland’s disabled community, helping ensure disabled people have meaningful input into the policies and services that affect them.
Disability responsiveness training
Tiaho Trust provides specialist disability responsiveness training for public, private and community-sector organisations. Our training helps organisations build their understanding, confidence and ability to provide accessible, inclusive and respectful services to disabled people.
