Epilepsy New Zealand provides free, confidential epilepsy support in Northland for people living with epilepsy, their whānau and the wider community.

Around 50,000 New Zealanders live with epilepsy. Epilepsy New Zealand works to improve their wellbeing, increase public understanding, reduce stigma and ensure people can access reliable information and practical support.

Anyone can contact the Northland team directly, and no referral is required.

Individual and whānau support

Epilepsy New Zealand provides personalised support based on the needs of each person and their whānau.

Support may include:

Home visits and face-to-face appointments
Support to attend appointments
Advice, information and referrals
Guidance about anti-seizure medication
Total Mobility assessments
Help accessing other services

Seizure management and safety

The Northland team helps individuals, whānau, schools, workplaces and community organisations develop practical plans for managing epilepsy safely.

Support may cover:

Developing Seizure Management Plans
Understanding possible seizure triggers
Identifying and reducing risks
Responding safely when a seizure occurs
Managing anti-seizure medication
Planning for emergencies

Epilepsy education and training

Epilepsy New Zealand provides education, training, seminars and community awareness presentations throughout Northland.

Education and training are available for:

Other professionals and service providers

These sessions help people understand epilepsy, respond confidently to seizures and create safer, more inclusive environments.

Online epilepsy support group

An online epilepsy support group is held through Microsoft Teams on the first Monday of every month.

The group offers a welcoming space where people can:

Ask questions
Learn more about managing epilepsy
Access encouragement and peer support
