Tiaho Trust host an annual event called Ruakaka Surfs Up Day and has done since 2014. The event is to give disabled youth/adult youth the opportunity to “catch a wave” in a safe environment. All the participants have either physical or intellectual disabilities and to ensure their safety professionals from Tokerau Beach Boys, Tutukaka Surf, Ruakaka Surf Life Saving Club and Learn 2 Surf Waipu have assisted us in this event.

In addition to the above professional helpers, we rely on further 25-30 volunteers on the day made up of parents, teachers for Blomfield Special Needs School, Parafed Northland, Spectrum Care and volunteer members of the public, local surfers. This event is so popular we do not have to promote this event to gain enough participants.

Participants – Registrations are limited to 30-33 due to having to have three instructors/volunteers per person in the water. If you would like to register be in quick by emailing arlene@tiaho.org.nz and submit your application. The downloadable application is above.

Volunteers – We would appreciate more volunteers at them moment we do not have enough. The application form for this is also attached.

This is an inclusive event.

Tiaho Trust will be closed from 22 December 2021 from midday until 10 January 2022.
