Every General Election Tiaho Trust who is a Northland based Disability Advocacy Organisation host a “Meet the Candidates” Public Forum, where standing candidates from the main political parties are invited to speak to the Northland disability community. This year the forum will be held at Mahitahi Hauora in their Rata room (Rust Avenue, Whangarei) on the 2nd September 2020 from 1.00 – 3.30pm. In Northland statistic show that 29% of our population have disabilities which is a large proportion of the constituency. These Forums have been very well attended in the past.
Each candidates are invited to answer the following questions:
Q1. Describe your party’s main policies you would introduce to bring about equality for disabled children in regard to their education & supports including Early Childhood Education.
Q2. What will you party do to implement a goal from the New Zealand Disability to increase the number of disabled people, including long-term unemployed disabled people, in paid employment and self-employment on an equal basis with others
Q3. What do you see as the biggest issues for the disability community in Whangarei/Northland and how do you intend on addressing it?
