Exciting New Internet Project

Tiaho Trust has launched the ‘Empowerment Online” project aimed at assisting disabled people to connect to Information, Communication, Technology.

What does Empowerment Online mean?

Empowerment Online is aiming to increase the capability of disabled people and their whanau to access the wealth of information available to them via the internet.
In turn we believe that this will provide the opportunity for people to become knowledgeable and empowered to make decisions that will impact positively on their daily lives and promote inclusion in their local and ‘virtual’ communities.

How will Empowerment Online help me?

The Empowerment Online project is about providing the means for individuals to access and use technology. We will make this happen by:

  • Working with you face to face to determine what you want to get out of learning to use computer technology and accessing the internet, and what you need to achieve this. We have employed a Web Technology Facilitator who will find out what your current computer abilities are and help you to determine what goals you hope to achieve by participating in the project.
  • He will also talk to you about what barriers you might encounter using the computer and what assistive technology you might need to make it easier for you to use the computer and achieve your gaols.
  • Each person participating in the project will have their own plan and work at their own pace.
  • Tiaho Trust is determining locations where internet technology will be available for you to use. We are aiming to make this project available to you in several locations throughout Northland.
  • Tiaho Trust has been involved in the development of two websites, tiaho.org.nz and supportoptions.co.nz with information that is important to disabled people’s lives. As part of your participation in the project you will access the information available and through your feedback, contribute to the ongoing improvement of these two sites.

I am interested so how do I get in touch?
