Are you a mad Rugby fan but because of your hearing or eyesight, you miss out on the finer points of the game?

Stirling Sports Whangarei now have ‘Sports Ears’ units available in store at 5 Rathbone Street Whangarei.

As a fan, there’s nothing better than being at the rugby and seeing it live!  Now, with the help of Sports Ears, you can also HEAR it live including choosing between what the referee, assistant referee and TV commentators say.

Sib Support NZ Workshop

SibSupportN.Z.Whangarei are holding a Sibling Workshop (SibShop) on 26th November from 10am to 3pm.  The SibShop is for children aged between 8 – 18 who do not have a health condition, disability or special/additional needs, but have a brother or sister that does.

Getting ‘Hooked up to health’

Tiaho Trust, Epilepsy Northland, NorthAble Disability Services and Parent to Parent recently attended the ‘Hook up to Health Hui’ in Ruakaka.  An event focused on hooking families/whanau up to health services in their community which are often provided at no cost.

The sun was out and the fish may have been biting out at the point, but at the Bream Bay Community Trust, people were ‘hooking into’ a free helping of healthy sausages cooked by the Marsden Lions and Centrah One Home maintenance services.  Homemade chicken soup was also provided by the Bream Bay Community Trust and Regent Training Centre Food cooking class, you couldn’t get enough of this!

‘Whangarei Brain Day’ now out on DVD

The ‘Whangarei Brain Day’ was held in March this year in collaboration with the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand.  It was part of an international effort to communicate the wonder and achievements of brain research and included lectures by leading neuroscientists and clinical neurology experts.

Community organisations that support people with a brain related disorder were also present and talked about the many valuable services they provide in the community and how people can access their services.

Copthorne Mobilises New Offerings

“This project is a great example of Northland Tourism Innovation, we are probably the first major Hotel in New Zealand to have a mobility scooter available for hire.”

Guests at the Copthorne will have access to greater mobility around Waitangi and Paihia, thanks to a new partnership between Dove’s Tail and the Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands, with financial support from Top Energy.

There is a new mobility scooter available for hire at the Waitangi Copthorne, which will provide a far greater holiday experience for tourists visiting the Bay of Islands with a mobility impairment.

New Parent to Parent Northland Support Group

On the first Wednesday of each month,  Parent to Parent Northland will be holding a support group for parents/people who are caring for a child with special or additional needs.  If you would like to meet other parents or carers who are doing the same come along to ‘The Pulse’ (next to NorthTech) on Raumanga Valley Road at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday 7th September for a coffee and a chat.

Bay of Islands Riding for the Disabled

At Bay of Islands RDA we have a highly skilled team that provides equine related therapy for people of all ages who may experience behavioural issues, social problems, have a physical or sensory disability or traumatic brain injury.

Riders attend RDA to achieve a specific goal, whether it is therapeutic, educational or sporting.  Attending RDA impacts positively on a number of areas for participants including improving balance and co–ordination, posture and muscle tone, concentration, self-discipline and self-esteem, perception and spatial awareness, communication and social skills, independence and encourages decision making.
