‘Talking’ NZ Sign Language

New Zealand sign language means being able to communicate clearly and succinctly to Vicki Carter.

The 33-year-old support worker from Maungatapere has been deaf since contracting meningitis as a baby. Through an interpreter, Vicki says there are no drawbacks to using NZ sign language.

Performance supports Alzheimers Society

Dementa sufferers will benefit from the Whangarei Theatre Company’s latest production.

The Cabaret is on at the Riverbank Theatre from May 18 to June 9 and all proceeds from the May 23 show will go to Alzheimers Society Northland.

Register for North Island Boccia Regional Tournament

The Northland Boccia Association will again be hosting the North Island Regionals this year in 3 months time. It is a BONZ sanctioned tournament and will take place on the weekend of 4 & 5 August @ the ASB Leisure Centre in Whangarei. Walk to new Aquatic Centre a marathon effort

Getting to the gym at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre has turned into a work out in itself for Ton van der Sluis. Ten years ago he suffered a medical misadventure which left two-thirds of his spinal cord damaged.

Fundraising success

Whangarei Riding for the Disabled raised $1,664 from it’s recent fundraising concert held at the Onerahi Bistro on Saturday, 21st April. Those who attended had an entertaining evening with great food, entertainment and company! There were a number of lucky people who went away with awesome raffle and door prizes

Great turn-out for Osteoarthritis Seminar

Whangarei had a very successful Arthritis New Zealand/Chrisco Osteoarthritis Seminar on Wed 18th March. As many of you will be aware it was the start of our dreadful weather which resulted in severe flooding around our region.
