What is Pain?

Published 23 October 2007, Posted in Northland

Arthritis New Zealand recently held a practical, interactive and informative seminar on pain management at the Cafler Suite, Forum North Whnangarei…

Tiaho Trust was given permission by the Arthritis New Zealand and key guest speakers to video the seminar so that this valuable information could be further utilised by people unable to attend the seminar.
The key note speakers were Dr Warrick Jones, a Palliative Medicine Specialist and Jan Haraldsson a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management at the Northland District Health Board.

Topics covered in the seminar were dictated by the attending public and included, what is pain, causes and types of pain, understanding pain medication and of course, pain management.

When asked about Tiaho videoing the seminar and making it available on the Tiaho website,
Dr Warrick Jones said “Our philosophy is we don’t want to be the specialists holding all the information, the more people that know more about what can benefit them the better”.
The 5 minute clip below is a snapshot from the seminar and talks about pain medications and pain pathways.

The complete seminar will be available on DVD from Tiaho Trust.

What a fantastic effort by the Tiaho Terrors. I am proud of my sister Gail Stacey for going the distance and wearing the grass out with her walking.
