Stroke Awareness Week
Published 08 September 2008, Posted in NorthlandThis week is Stroke Awareness week.
The Northland Stroke Foundation will be very busy with their Stroke awareness activities including offering free seminars hosted in partnership with Age Concern Whangarei and their annual street appeal where the money raised will go towards carrying out the great work they do in Northland.
Events organised locally:
Stroke Seminars: Tuesday 9th September 2008. The seminars are aimed at Stroke Survivors and their families/whanau and carers. They are also designed to give you the information you require to identify and minimise your risk of stroke.
The information covers all aspects of stroke and stroke recovery. There will be a dietician speaking on healthy eating, Dr Tus Fernando talking on medical care, a physiotherapist will be speaking on rehabilitation and every day exercise tips. There will also be time spent on relaxation and raising the awareness of the importance to find ways to relieve stress.
Fanstastic seminars with honourable guests helping the community to better understand Stroke and the recovery process!
Relaxation Candles: This year we have been sponsored with Natures Candles blue Relaxation candles. These are to compliment the relaxation and ‘Ways to relieve stress’ which is covered in the seminars. These candles are for sale at the Seminars and also in selected pharmacies.
Annual Street Appeal: Our street appeal is another big one this year with 11 sites around town, with all collectors volunteering their time to help the Stroke Foundation. These collectors include many of the Lions and Rotary Clubs, and the Kensington Croquet club. We really appreciate their support.
