Special Guest Speaker

Published 18 February 2009, Posted in Northland Special Guest Speaker

Parkinson’s Northland is very privileged to have visiting our area in April Mrs. Anne Barry, a renowned author and supporter of Parkinson’s New Zealand.

Former Kiwi firefighters Anne and John Barry retired young. They worked and saved hard and then, fit and ready for fun, sold everything when they were in their late 40s and took to the road in their custom-designed luxury bus. Now in their 50s, they have recently been giving the Ockers a taste of Kiwi, having adventures all over the lucky country and playing golf wherever they go.

Last year she donated a portion of each sale of her book “Playing with Fire” to Parkinson’s New Zealand. This book told the story of her career as New Zealand’s first female firefighter.

This year she has a new book out entitled “Never Say Old” (true stories about the years she’s spent on the road in New Zealand and Australia). Dining with an eccentric chef in the middle of nowhere, dealing with a plague of flies, learning to pick tomatoes, digging for sapphires, encountering enraged emus….Wherever the Barry’s go, there is humour and action in spades.
If you have ever dreamed of living the good life before you’re too old to enjoy it, this hilarious book will both inspire you and give you the best laugh you’ve had in ages.

She has been speaking to Parkinson’s groups around New Zealand about the book and donating $5 of each book sale made at the meeting back to the group.  She is now coming to visit our division and will be doing like wise for each book sold.

She will be at the following meetings and venues:
