NORTHLAND 2011 - Media release

The Northland 2011 group is reminding fans to plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get to the first Rugby World Cup 2011 (RWC 2011) game this week.

The Northland Events Centre plays host to its first Pool A match on Wednesday 14 September, Tonga v Canada.

There will be a number of road closures around the Northland Events Centre from noon until 8pm on 14 September including the stadium-end of:

  • Okara Drive (north and south)
  • Port Road (south)
  • Porowini Avenue (new extension)

As you will only be able to walk up to the games, temporary parking areas have been established at:

  • end of Railway Road
  • Porowini Avenue

A one-way traffic and taxi drop-off system will operate from the Okara Drive roundabout and down Commerce Street.

A disabled drop-off area will be set up on the new Porowini Avenue extension from which people will be able to transfer to fully-equipped shuttles that will deliver them to the game.

Further travel information can be found on the Northland 2011 website: http://northland2011.com/game_on/venues/ or the Whangarei District Council website: http://www.wdc.govt.nz

The second match will be Tonga v Japan, also at the Northland Events Centre, on Wednesday 21 September.

There are still tickets available for both Northland matches, but Tournament organisers are expecting near or capacity crowds so don’t delay, buy your tickets now and avoid queuing on match day. Buy online at http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/tickets  or at the Ticketek outlet at Forum North, Rust Avenue, hours: 8am – 4.30pm.
