Parent 2 Parent Sibling Camp
Published 06 October 2008, Posted in NorthlandThere is a sibling camp being held for siblings in the Auckland/Northland region on the 14th - 16th November at the YMCA Shakespear Lodge Shakespear Regional Park Whangaparaoa.
This weekend is for children and young adults who have, or have had, brothers or sisters with disabilities. The aim of the weekend is to provide siblings with an experience that will assist them to cope with the challenges of living with a brother or sister who has a disability or special needs.
There will be time for fun and activities including drama games and kayaking and time will also be devoted to workshop sessions where issues that affect them will be discussed.
It is important that the child/ren meet the criteria for this programme. The programme is for siblings who do not have special needs themselves.
This programme is offered at no cost to the young people attending. It is funded through the Ministry of Health. We are able to contribute towards the cost of transporting children to and from the programme where the return travelling distance is more than 30 kilometres. However, this will be a contribution and will not cover the actual expense.
Please distribute the supporting document below to any families who have children who you feel would benefit from such a weekend away.
If you require any further information then feel free to get in touch.
