NZ National Boccia Champs

Check out how many medals and trophies the Northland Boccia team brought home from the New Zealand National Boccia Champs in Christchurch 24th - 27th July.

What a great effort, a big congratulations to them all!  We look forward to seeing them play here at the Kensington Stadium where the 2009 Nationals will be held.

The Northland Boccia (wheelchair bowls) Team completed their 2008 Nationals campaign on Sunday.  Nine Northland representative players competed with the Team winning a total of six medals and two trophies. Northland again showed their strength in the Kiwi Class individual competition with a clean sweep of the medals and with Michelle Batchelor retaining her National title won in 2007.  The results are as follows:

Kiwi Grade Individual:
Gold     Michelle Batchelor
Silver     Kimberley McLean (Tikipunga High School)
Bronze   Scott Burdett

BC1 & 2 Grade Teams:
Bronze   Alex Dickson (11 years old - Manaia View School)

BC3 Grade Pairs:
Bronze   Annie Wihongi

Kiwi Grade Pairs:
Bronze   Scott Burdett & Kayela Benseman

2009 NZ National Boccia Champs
Northland has been awarded the 2009 Nationals which will take place at the Genesis Energy Kensington Stadium, Whangarei over four days at Labour weekend next year.

Northland Boccia’s secretary, Kathy Bingham has been appointed to the Boccia NZ Executive as secretary.  Our warmest congratulations are extended to Kathy.
Chris Youens - North Island Player Rep - Boccia NZ
Chris Youens has retained his position on the Boccia NZ Committee as NI Player Rep. Congratulations also to Chris.
