New books for specific impairments

The Whangarei Community now has access too easy to read and up to date specialist’s health books for individuals and families living with Epilepsy and Multiple Sclerosis thanks to Tiaho Trust.
Tiaho Trust supports fourteen specialist Disability Information Advisory Service providers in Northland and administers a budget in collaboration with them with the aim of increasing the effective delivery of disability information to the wider community.
The Trust has recently purchased a number of books on these organisations behalf as there was a need within the community for more information about living with these conditions. The books have been donated to the Whangarei District Library.
Supriya Khambete said that “We are delighted to receive these books about epilepsy and MS at the Central Library because they are then available to such a wide range of readers. These books are aimed at different age groups and we are sure our patrons and their families will find them useful. We enjoyed being able to help the Tiaho Trust raise awareness about these conditions”.
Elaine Goldthorpe, Field Officer from Epilepsy Northland said that “Putting these books into the Whangarei library means that they are accessible to the whole of Northland. Not all people have access to the internet; these books provide access to information that would otherwise not be available to them”. Elaine says that “Information leads to understanding, understanding leads to acceptance, acceptance leads to taking control of oneself and moving forward, providing these books will support people with these impairments on their journey”.
The book titles include: Epilepsy: A Guide to Balancing Your Life, Exercises for Multiple Sclerosis A Safe and Effective Program to Fight Fatigue, Build Strength and Improve Balance, Growing Up With Epilepsy: A Practical Guide for Parents, Living Beyond Multiple Sclerosis: A Woman’s Guide, Mental Sharpening Stones: Manage the Cognitive Challenges of Multiple Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis: 300 Tips for Making Life Easier, Multiple Sclerosis: A Guide For Families, My Mommy Has Epilepsy, The Why and What of Epilepsy, Women Living With Multiple Sclerosis, Women with Epilepsy: A handbook of Health and Treatment Issues.
The books are currently on display at the Whangarei District Library to support MS Awareness week and Epilepsy Northland Awareness week which occurred recently.
