Published December 03rd 2008, Posted in NorthlandHello again!
It is hard to believe that it is already December and i know that it has been ages since my first blog!
In this blog I want to talk a bit about my experience in Wellington with World Vision and my most recent Little Peoples Conference.
Every year for the 40hr Famine the top 30 High Schools around New Zealand that raise the most amount have the chance to send a representative student down to Wellington for a week with all expenses paid by Sanitarium. I was fortunate enough to be chosen by my school to be the representative.
Over the week in Wellington myself and 29 other students got experiences we will never forget. We went to Parliament and met politicians such as Chris Finlayson (National), Peter Dunne (United Future) and Marian Hobbs (Labour). Not only did we meet with all high profile people, we also looked more into the work that World Vision does and the state that some people in third world countries live in. This made all of us understand how lucky we are in New Zealand with what we have.
As I mentioned in my introduction I recently attended the 2008 Little People’s Conference. It was held in Hamner Springs over four days. Most of the time we spent just catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
One of the most important parts for me at the conference was having younger Little People come and ask me questions about “teenage” life. It came to my attention that as each of us who have a disability get older we have experiences that are invaluable for younger people with the same disability. It is important that we pass this knowledge on to the younger ones to help guide them through areas of life, particularly the mid teenage years.
I hope that you all have a enjoyable Christmas and a relaxing holiday!
Take care,
Loren Corbett

Thanks Gail and Tiaho Trust for posting this information. I do hope people from the Northland can attend. Let me know if you require transport and I’ll see what I can do. Keep smiling, Mark
