Lack of parking faulted - Disabled not consulted

An advocate for people with disabilities has criticised the Whangarei District Council about the lack of disabled carparking near the city’s new police station.
The council gave the police station a waiver to reduce the carparks in its underground fleet parking area from more than 100 to about 90. But Whangarei’s Disability Sector Reference Group chairman, Jonny Wilkinson, said there had been a lack of consultation with the group about the need for disabled carparks in the area.
Police stations are included in a list of activities required to comply with the New Zealand Building Act which holds that new public buildings must provide disabled carparks
