International Day of the Older Person

The United Nations’ International Day of the Older Person (IDOP) is celebrated on 1 October each year. This year’s international celebration marks the tenth anniversary of IDOP.

Whangarei will celebrate IDOP with a number of activities under the banner “have a go” on this day from 10am - 2pm at the Town Basin and Heritage Park, Maunu.

Activities at the Town Basin will include free access to Clapham Clocks, Tai Chi, Sit Fit, café specials, dinner specials, art workshops, guided walks, a fashion parade, and petanque.

At Maunu the “have a go” programme will include free access for gold card holders to Whangarei Vintage Car Club, Heritage Park Museum, Whangarei Steam and Diesel Railway Club, Whangarei Model Engineering Club, The Vintage Car Machinery Club, the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre and the Kiwi House.
