Attention Mobility Scooter & Wheelchair users

Published 05 March 2008, Posted in Northland Attention Mobility Scooter & Wheelchair users

After a very successful ‘Safety Day’ in 2007; a safety project initiated by Age Concern’s Chris Simper, RSA’s Marian Barclay and RoadSafe Northland’s Gillian Archer; there was some discussion about where to take the programme next.

Mobility Scooter user Owen Main went to Age Concern with some ideas and it was agreed that a meeting would be held to find out what mobility scooter and wheelchair owners wanted from future meetings.  Chris states that there are a lot of things that could be done to increase personal and environmental safety for mobility scooter and wheelchair users and that she is looking forward to hearing what peoples needs are in this area.

Mobility and wheelchair users could meet strictly as a social club with outings, scooter trips and entertainment or involve discussion and presentation on safety and maintenance, problem roads and footpaths, aids and accessories or a combination of the two.

Come along to the meeting on Thursday March 13th at the Morrison Hall in Rust Ave.  The meeting is from 11.30 to 3pm, a light lunch will be served at 12.30.  Please RSVP to Age Concern Whangarei ph 438 8043.

There will be plenty of discussion and social time! Chris, Gillian and Marian look forward to seeing you there.
