Are you passionate about fishing?

Published 28 April 2009, Posted in Northland Are you passionate about fishing?

EKO Fishing Club needs you!

We need people who are passionate about fishing, willing to share their expertise, would be keen to help co-ordinate and take on other rolls - they need to have the time and plenty of it!!

It is well established that there is a huge interest out there in fishing, however our club needs reliable and committed peopole to help run it.

Come along to a meeting being held in the Whangarei Pipe Band Hall in Rawhiti Street, Morningside on Wednesday 29th April at 1pm if you would like to be involved.

We are a not - profit organisation formed in August 2005, after a supposedly ‘one off’ charter.  EKO Fishing Club was initially for Stroke Survivors, however, it quickly became apparent that our unique support club was suited to everyone with a disability, and so our fellowship was widened.

We have worked very hard to meet these needs and and as a result fishers have enjoyed many memorable experiences and events…charter boat trips, fundraising, torpedo longline etc.

Benefits to the participants in the past have shown to include:

  • Empowerment
  • Improved quality of life
  • Healthy environment
  • Inclusive activity
  • Sence of achievement
  • Increased attention span

Members have turned their lives arround and invested in rods again, torpedo long-lines, bought boats and built smoke houses.

Members have become pro-active in supporting EKO in areas such as promotion and fundraising etc.

EKO’s vision is to have it’s very own boat in Northland especially designed to cater for wheelchair users.  EKO Fishing Club also participate in mainstream club activities.

We do note have any fishing events organised at this stage, but we will inform you as soon as we do.  Please not that fishers are reqired to bring their own support person on outings if one is needed.

What a fantastic effort by the Tiaho Terrors. I am proud of my sister Gail Stacey for going the distance and wearing the grass out with her walking.
