Advocacy Workshop

Published 10 August 2009, Posted in Northland

A half day training on advocacy is being organised for community workers on Thursday 20th August.

The training, organised by a group formed out of the Whangarei Community Networkers, will focus on WINZ and IRD entitlements as well as a session on ‘how to’ advocate.

The training has been organised in recognition that many people in our community, families, older people, people with disabilities, were not aware of their entitlements with WINZ, IRD etc.  Many, particularly those newly unemployed, were struggling to know what to do next and how to navigate through the various systems.

The training aims to provide community workers (health, social, family) with accurate information on WINZ and IRD entitlements so they can then pass this on to the people they work with.

Speakers from WINZ and IRD will be available to answer participant questions.  A brief guide to what people are eligible for has also been developed and will be given out at the workshop.

The training will be held at Manaia Health PHO 28-30 Rust Ave, Whangarei, from 9am - 1pm.  A light lunch will be provided at the end of the session.

Please RSVP to Audrey Jellick on 4381015 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) by Tuesday 18th August.
