Paralympics update
Published September 10th 2008, Posted in NationalNew Zealand won its third medal at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing with Wellington’s Kate Horan claiming the silver medal in the 200m final on day three of competition.
Horan, 33 looked to be out of the medals coming into the final 20 metres of the race, however the favourite and unbeaten runner of the past few years, April Holmes from the United States fell and took out the second placed runner Marie-Amelie Fur(France) as well.

Paralympics - Day 1 review
Published September 08th 2008, Posted in NationalVisually impaired New Zealand track cyclist Jayne Parsons finished within two seconds of a medal on the opening day of the Paralympics in Beijing yesterday.
Parsons and pilot Annaliisa were fifth in the women’s 1km time trial, clocking one minute 14.048 seconds. It was 1.585sec outside the time that would have earned them bronze.

New Zealand will ratify the first UN treaty of the new millennium - the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and disabled peoples’ organisations are celebrating loudly.
With Parliament passing the Disability Act, the way is clear to ratify.

Paralympic Games almost here!

One week out from the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games (the Games open on the 6th of September) the majority of the team have departed the New Zealand shores. The remainder of the team will be departing on Monday evening.
