Parkinson’s Northland is very privileged to have visiting our area in April Mrs. Anne Barry, a renowned author and supporter of Parkinson’s New Zealand.

Former Kiwi firefighters Anne and John Barry retired young. They worked and saved hard and then, fit and ready for fun, sold everything when they were in their late 40s and took to the road in their custom-designed luxury bus. Now in their 50s, they have recently been giving the Ockers a taste of Kiwi, having adventures all over the lucky country and playing golf wherever they go.

‘Access Whangarei Map’ launch

Tiaho Trust has worked alongside the Whangarei District Council and CCS Disability Action Northland to develop a map identifying accessible public amenities, parking, restaurants, hotels and bars in Whangarei. 

One of the main objectives behind this map was not only to identify accessible buildings and services but to promote Whangarei as a desirable holiday destination for disabled people of all ages.

Disabilities Wananga

Whanau living with disability – let’s talk about life. Come to a one - day wananga!

The Maori Development Research Centre (MDRC) is a registered company of social researchers in several areas of Maori development including cultural history, whanau and hapu development, disability issues for Maori and Maori post-secondary education.

We’re facilitating the formation of a kaupapa whanau of people interested in helping to improve quality of life for whanau living with disability. A key part of this process will be meeting together to wananga.

Disabled Persons Assembly - Media Release

DPA, the national organisation of disabled people, has slammed the government’s response to a select committee report about disability services as “absolutely pathetic”.

CEO Gary Williams says “Creating another Cabinet Committee, with no expertise on disabled people’s issues, is not going to help.”
