Disabled Surfing New Zealand’s is holding it’s first ‘Train the helper’ Day on Saturday 14th February from 10am to 2.30 at Omanu Beach, Mt Maunganui.

Having his own place to call home has meant a world of independence and confidence for Willie Pivac.

A wheelchair user since 23 due to a tumour in his spine, Willie has been so desperate to not be a burden on his family that he considered living in a rest home.

Behaviour Support Services Review

The Ministry of Health is seeking feedback from providers and interested parties on the Behaviour Support Services Review discussion paper.  This paper makes recommendations for future purchasing options for Behaviour Support Service in New Zealand.

They plan to hold forums in the main centres so that they can recieve face to face feedback on this discussion paper or if you are unable to attend one of these forums you can email them.

“In My Shoes”

In My Shoes is a DVD containing information about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It gives the viewer a glimpse of what it’s like to live in the shoes of someone with ASD.

Mäori families of children with autism spectrum disorder have initiated the production of this video designed to raise awareness of the challenges the disorder presents and help other families to better cope.

We need Alz Club Assistants for our programme which is currently running 7 sessions and soon to expand to 8.

Cameron receives MNZM honour

Cameron Leslie, Whangarei swimming gold medallist winner at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing has received recognition for his outstanding achievements by being made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to swimming in the New Year’s Honours list.
