Accessible voting for the Deaf Community

We have been notified by John Ward from the Electoral Enrolment Centre in Whangarei that to ensure that the Deaf community are supported to vote, there will be several accessible polling places in the Whangarei area that will have interpreters/communicators available if they have any questions.

Once again the topic for this years Awareness Week is “Get It On Time” stressing the importance of medication being taken at the correct time so the patient gets the full benefit. 

This year the N.Z. Pharmacies Guild has offered their support and all their members will ensure that Parkinsonians getting their prescription medicines will have a reminder card included.

Tiaho Trust, in conjunction with IDEA Services is inviting local standing candidates for the 2008 General Election to have an audience with the Whangarei disabled community. 

The objective of the event is for the disabled community to be more informed about different political party’s disability policies and to put disability on the local political radar.

David and Prince step out

David Senior stepped out with his guide dog Prince, Mark Shanks and Ricky Robson in the 4km course in the Kaitaia run/walk event held last Sunday.

It’s really good to see people with disabilities being involved in the wider community and being seen out there supporting local initives.

Very inspirational article for our maori men, i’m the gout research nurse for ngati porou hauora i would love to utilise your article and photo to motivate our many sufferers here on the coast.  I too have come across some very young guys (and old) who are too whakama etc and are not presenting early enough, could you contact me please?
