I know it has been ages since I have updated you all on what I has been happening.
I am now living in Hamilton studying Politics, Philosophy and Media! Absolutely loving the challenge and the change of scenery!
The Hostel that I am staying at is amazing, filled with great people, pretty good food and I have found just about everything accessible. The positive aspect is that if something is not accessible, everyone there is willing to help.

The Person Centred Research Centre at AUT University, along with a number of community partners, have recently received funds from the Health Research Council and Ministry of Health to explore ways people living with a disability or a disabling health condition stay, or become, healthy.

He Panui to launch of new computer portals
Published June 09th 2010, Posted in NorthlandIn an innovative approach to improve access to Ministry of Health disability information equipment and support services, computer portals have been established in partnership with PHO and Iwi health providers across Northland.
Surveys have shown that 96% of the general population are unaware of how to access disability supports, so the portals will improve connection times between those requiring supports and the assessing agency NorthAble that coordinates support packages for individuals and families on behalf of the Ministry of Health.

Getting older with cerebral palsy: strategies for positive ageing.
Our study aims to find out more about how getting older affects people with cerebral palsy.
We would like to talk with people with cerebral palsy aged over 35 years living in the upper North Island about strategies they use to age positively and stay well.
We are also interested in finding out how health and rehabilitation services meet their needs as they get older, and to explore their own views about how these services might better meet those needs over both short and longer term.

Tickets were booked and paid for after a huge amount of effort getting the funding to attend this tournament.
The only flight I could get was with Qantas and this posed a huge problem. This was due to the height restrictions on Wheelchairs. For my flight over to Sydney the height restriction was 84cm, my power chair is 89cm. However for my flight from Sydney to Canberra the restriction was up to 130cm. Due to this mum and I decided to take just my manual chair.

Sib Support NZ - 2nd Generatioin workshop

This weekend will focus on the unique perspective of siblings, the distinctive dynamics of the relationship they have with their disabled brother or sister, and will provide practical advice and information about how to manage the role of advocate.
Weekend workshops will be held in Auckland and Christchurch and are on offer to any adult siblings who are interested in being an important part of the support and guidance of their disabled brother or sister.
