Empowerment Online
How will Empowerment Online help me?
The Empowerment Online project is about providing the means for individuals to access and use technology. We will make this happen by:
- Working with you face to face to determine what you want to get out of learning to use computer technology and accessing the internet, and what you need to achieve this. We have employed a Web Technology Facilitator who will find out what your current computer abilities are and help you to determine what goals you hope to achieve by participating in the project.
- He will also talk to you about what barriers you might encounter using the computer and what assistive technology you might need to make it easier for you to use the computer and achieve your gaols.
- Each person participating in the project will have their own plan and work at their own pace.
- Tiaho Trust is determining locations where internet technology will be available for you to use. We are aiming to make this project available to you in several locations throughout Northland.
- Tiaho Trust has been involved in the development of two websites (http://www.tiaho.org.nz and http://www.supportoptions.co.nz) with information that is important to disabled people’s lives. As part of your participation in the project you will access the information available and through your feedback, contribute to the ongoing improvement of these two sites.
I am interested so how do I get in touch?
You can contact the Web Technology Facilitator, Matthew Lewis at Tiaho Trust on 09 430 3406 or free phone on 0800 430 3406 or email
Spork.co.nz
Spork is a fun and educational social network website targeted towards people of all ages and skill levels and aims to build knowledge and understanding about communicating using modern Internet technology.
Spork is a proactive learning tool that seeks to engage and support participation in building friendships with other Spork members. Spork is a invite only network and is moderated by Tiaho Trust to ensure a safe and trouble free experience.
Spork is also for collaborating with other educational organisations and provides opportunity to share knowledge and resources. Take part in discussions of topical interest.
Why did we develop Spork?, Through working on the Empowerment On Line Project where we encourage and facilitate disabled people to use internet technology, we realized there was a need for a simple social networking tool. While there is a large range of web based social networking applications such as Facebook and Bebo, there wasnt anything we found that was suitable, that wasn’t filled with advertising and could be centrally moderated.
If you would like to join Spork please contact us. or phone 09 430 3406 for an invitation.
