Disability Info Centre - Kaikohe
The Disability Information Centre was opened as there was no centralised point of contact for people to access disability information in the Mid North. Tiaho Trust and NorthAble jointly provide services to the disabled community from the centre making it a great resource for the Mid North community.
The Kaikohe Disability Information Centre is utilised by fourteen Specialist Disability Information and Advisory Service (DIAS) organisations who provide access to their information and services from this centre. More information about these organisations. Please contact Maria Wihongi for more information about what services and support groups these organisations provide in the Mid North.
Tiaho Trust provides a Voluntary Van Service for anyone with a disability who has no other transport to use for either shopping or medical appointments within a 30km radius of the Kaikohe town centre. People who wish to use the van will need to make an appointment with Maria Wihongi to access this service.
NorthAble provides a NASC service in the Mid and Far North with a co-ordinator based in the Kaikohe office. Follow this link for more information about this service.
NorthAble also has a range of disability equipment for sale; items not on display can be ordered for you. There is also a range of hire equipment available.
Maria Wihongi is the DIAS Administrator for the office and will be able to help you with all your enquiries. If you or your organisation would like to know more about NorthAble and the services they provide please contact Maria to arrange a suitable presentation time. Maria says “We are committed to providing customers, clients, disabled people and their families/whanau the service that they require”.
