Arthritis New Zealand

Logo for Arthritis New Zealand

Arthritis NZ is the organisation that works with arthritis sufferers.  There being over 140 types of arthritis it is very common in all age and social-economic groups in New Zealand.

Each region in New Zealand has several Arthritis educators who run one to one clinics/seminars and visual talks about arthritis.  They have a good knowledge of the condition and can recommend options to help deal with it.

There are offices in most towns with an office manager who is the principal fundraiser there and who is also the volunteers co-ordinator.  In cities these are usually separate positions.

In Northland we support people with Arthritis by providing a number of services, why don’t you check them out?  Arthritis_NZ_Northland_Support_and_Exercise_Groups.doc

Service Centre Co-ordinator

I am the Service Centre Co-coordinator for Arthritis NZ.  I started working with Arthritis New Zealand in 2005.  I am also a very good client of Arthritis New Zealand as I have three types of Arthritis.

My role includes undertaking all the service centre administration duties.  This includes organizing fundraising activities for the Annual Appeal and Lucky Orange Lottery.  I also organize the Fun Exercise Group and Hydrotherapy classes and support the co-ordinators of the fibromyalgia support group and the 20+ support group.  The 20+ support group is for anyone who has arthritis and their families.

I recruit volunteers to help with our fundraising events and provide assistance at our seminars.

The bottom line for a volunteer is “It must be fun”.  Please contact me if you would like to become a volunteer with Arthritis New Zealand or would like to know more about our services.

Arthritis NZ Educator

As an Arthritis Educator my role is to enable a better quality of life for those affected by Arthritis.

I see clients (and support people if needed) on a one to one basis at Arthritis clinics. Appointments are necessary. Clinics can be held at the service centre in Whangarei or in other areas such as Dargaville, Maungaturoto, Kawakawa, or Mangawhai Heads.  I will enable clients to better understand their diagnosis, manage their pain, consider treatment options, understand their medications, increase their mobility, look at ways to solve their problems, set realistic goals. Self Management of Arthritis is very important. I will refer to other health professionals as needed.

I also refer to the Support Groups we have including support and exercise classes which are coordinated by our Service Centre Coordinator Sue Baker.

I also hold regular seminars on a variety of subjects e.g. Joint Replacement, Pain Management, types of Arthritis. These are always advertised. Some are free and others may incur a small fee of $10

Please be advised that I work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday s.
