Our friend Red from the website ‘walking.is.overrated’ recently interviewed Ruth Dyson, Minister for Disability Issues, asking her a number of questions including “What are your thoughts on funding, in particular the gap between MOH and ACC funding” and “If Labour are re-elected, what’s on your to-do list?”.  This makes for interesting listening, check it out and leave a comment.

Then you need to be politically aware and make use of your civic rights to vote. 

Tiaho Trust will be doing a series of articles and events leading up to the general election this year.  To kick this off Tiaho Trust is holding an Electoral Education Workshop presented by the Electoral Commission.

Paihia Fun run/walk

You are invited to come along and participate in the ASB Paihia fun run/walk taking place on June 8th.  This year it will include an ‘ability component’ in which those with mobility challenges are welcome and encouraged to participate. This fun run/walk is one of the Sport Northland series of five taking place within Northland.

Palliative Care workshop

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is holding a series of workshops for professionals and lay people with an interest in Palliative Care and Motor Neurone Disease. 

The “Palliative Care workshop for Patients with Motor Neurone Disease - what can we offer?” will be presented by Dr David Oliver and one of these workshops is being held in Whangarei.

MoH Long Term Conditions Workshop

The purpose of the hui is to develop the relationship between the community and voluntary sector and the Ministry of Health, in the area of long-term conditions. 

The hui will also provide an opportunity to up-date community and voluntary organisations working in this area on current projects in long-term conditions.

The Whangarei workshop is to be held on Thursday 12th June at Forum North, Cafler Suite 1 from 10am until midday.
