Paihia Run/Walk

Westpac in partnership with Halberg Trust have pledged their support again this year, sponsoring people who have a disability to participate in the Carters Paihia Run/Walk.

Westpac are offering to cover the cost of the entry fee for people who have a disability, and their support person if required, to enter the event. Westpac staff will also be on hand through out the event to provide support, assistance and encouragement and will host a barbeque at the end of the event.

Arthritis NZ Northland is hosting a FREE SEMINAR at the Cafler Suite in Forum North, Whangarei on Wednesday 28th April at 6.45pm.  The guest speaker is Rheumatologist, DR Sunil Kumar.

To register please phone the Arthritis NZ Whangarei or Kaipara Service Centre and talk to either Maggie 0800 663 463 or Sue 438 5037.

Certificates will be given to Health Professionals.

These seminars are supported by the Northland District Health Board.

NZ Disability Support Network Launch

You are invited to attend the New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) launche on Wednesday 14 April 2010 at 11.30 am at the Parent to Parent office in Whangarei at 291 Kamo Street.

We will be using their video confereing facilities to link the cities/towns together with the Main Launch site in Wellington where the Minister for Disability Issues Tariana Turia will be officially opening the New Zealand Disability Support Network.

The ‘Northland Brain Train’ Journey

Kaitaia Primary School Kapahaka GroupWell it came and it went chugging its way through Northland.

First stop was at sunny Kaitaia.  What a wonderful host Kaitaia Primary School was.  They put on an awesome Kapa Haka performance to kick the day off and things only got better.  They also out did themselves with the refreshments and the tasty treats the children provided.

YES WE DID IT!!!!

 The Tiaho Terror TeamThe Tiaho Terrors had a most enjoyable and successful Relay for Life on the weekend of 20/21 March.

The opening ceremony started at 1.30pm with speeches and a blessing.  A survivors lap followed this and then we were straight into it. 

We walked from 2.00pm Saturday until 2.00pm Sunday.  We did it in turns, making sure we had someone walking at any given time, most times we had several people on the track at once.

A meeting to form a permanent organisation to continue with this activity will be held at the Whangarei Cruising Club Clubrooms at Kissing Point, Onerahi Road on Monday the 29th March at 7pm.

The agenda includes, background of this activity, the Sailability organisation, a suggested organisation structure, proposed constitution, election of a formation committee and general business.
