Price of unification could be substantial

I can assure you, if we move to a unitary authority these youth, older-people and disabled-people advisory groups will be one of the first things to go.

If the Local Government Commission has its way, either our children will be celebrating the unification of Northland in years to come or they will be perpetually saying “WTH? How did that happen? What were we thinking? What were our parents thinking?”

Local Government politics can be fantastically boring at times but the issue of unification is going to impact on our region in more ways than one.

Walking Through The Shadows

A five week small group course for anyone experiencing the pain of grief or loss - Walking Through The Shadows - will be held at the Anglican Care Centre starting May 7th and running until June 5th 2014.

This group will be facilitated by trained counsellors - Lyn Hutchinson and Beth Henderson.

How do we ensure equality at work?  EEO …. What does it stand for? Expensive Earrings Only? Well, maybe in the 80’s, but what it actually stands for is Equal Employment Opportunities.

Most government departments and other local government authorities must have EEO policies.

Although there are no legislative requirements, all New Zealand employers are bound by the Human Rights Act 1990, which outlaws discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability and specifically covers employment.
